How To Use A Gratitude Journal
No matter what gratitude journal you have selected or made, you will want to get the most from your experience.
Gratitude journaling helps to find out what is really important in your life. Then it will help you focus on those things rather than all the little things that are just minor annoyances. You will actually learn more about yourself in the process and become more self-aware.
In the most basic form of gratitude journaling, you simply write down three things in s list that you are most grateful for. You can do this at the end of your day as a stress reliever. It can give you a sense of calm after a long day.
Or you can start your day on a positive note. It is up to you. The most important thing is to do it every day. It will become a habit that you will enjoy doing after you build it into your schedule.
There is no right or wrong way to journal in your gratitude journal. There are no rules. So you can keep it simple or go all out, it is up to you!
As a Christian, we look at our gratitude journal somewhat differently than just an expression of gratitude. We are approaching our gratitude from the focus of the blessings that the Lord has given us. Not only are we just writing words in a book, but we are also giving thanks and praising God for all He has done in our lives. We are spending time with Him and listening to the things He may be telling us through the Holy Spirit. Our giving thanks in a journal is a prayer of Thanksgiving!
Gratitude Journal Use Tips
- Be specific-instead of just saying that you are thankful for a person, write why you are. Details matter. The more positivity you write the better you will feel. It's not about a list. Go into depth about the specifics of what you are grateful for.
- Focus more on people rather than things! People have more impact.
- If you are journaling at night, keep your journal and your pen on your nightstand where you will see it. If you are journaling in the morning, keep it by the space where you will have your coffee and breakfast.
- Start small. You do not have to write a book every day. Just start with one to three things that you are grateful for. If you want to expand on your thoughts that is great, just do the best you can. In time, you will start to write more.
- Br grateful about yourself and your abilities. When you express gratitude for those things you will find that over time you will have a more positive yiew of yourself.
- Use gel pens and color to create joy and happiness in your gratitude journal.
